Eligibility to Work in The UK

In line with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006, all staff must provide evidence of their eligibility to work in the UK. On induction day, all staff must show the Site or Regional Manager proof of eligibility documents in person alongside a photocopy of the same documents for Head Office to log. If a staff member is not present on induction day, these must be produced on day one before the individual starts work.

Acceptable Documents

Staff must produce original documents (and a photocopy of the same documents) from the following list (NB: Driving Licences are not acceptable):

The following documents are alternatively acceptable when produced in combination with an official document giving the person’s full name and permanent National Insurance Number (temporary NIN’s are not acceptable) which has been issued by a Government Agency or a previous employer:

If you cannot produce any of the above, or any of the documents produced are not valid acceptable, you will need to contact Head Office.

The Process

Managers must ask staff to prepare an original form of ID from the above list, as well as a photocopy of this same form of ID. Staff must bring both the original and the photocopy in person to induction day with them. With the staff member present, the Manager must check the details of the document, including likeness to the individual (photograph ID) and the validity of dates, watermarks and size. You will need to check the original form of ID and also check the photocopy is an accurate representation of the original.

The staff member will be given back their original form of ID and the manager must retain the photocopy of every document checked in the red returns envelope, returning to head office at the end of the week.

Regional Managers (or Assistant Managers) will complete this process for Site Managers.

If you are unsure about this process, please contact Head Office on 0114 263 2150.
