UK: Social Media & Online Content Editor

We’re looking for a talented social media writer to join our team in Sheffield, where your posts, tweets and articles will inspire parents, staff and partner organisations to help children get active, have fun and learn together.

100,000+ children experience our programmes in the UK, on European resorts, on cruise ships around the world and through our development work with NGO partners like World Vision.

We need a resourceful individual with an engaging and professional written style to inspire our members (we’re a non-profit!), motivate people to work for us (we have to recruit 1000 people every year), equip our staff with competent training materials, and provide compelling proposals to persuade organisations to partner with us.

Since both our staff and members typically interact with us online, your work will range from tweets and Facebook posts, to longer-form blog posts, webpages and online learning content. You’ll often need to deliver high impact with limited space to people scan reading emails and flicking through their feed – but that’s the modern communication challenge which we hope you relish.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan
    1. Understand the full range of communication routes to our members, staff and organisational partners
    2. Plan the use of appropriate tone, format, style, frequency and agenda for those communication routes
    3. Work with the Head of Design & Development and different departments to understand their communication and written needs
    4. Plan a schedule of communication work needed, both one-off work and repeated content writing


  1. Create
    1. Write long and short-form copy to engage our online communities – including webpages, social media posts, emails, printed flyers, adverts
    2. Create and improve learning materials for all areas, including: programmes, health and safety, working with children, customer service, management
    3. Provide professionally written proposal documents and suitable marketing materials to engage professional partners
    4. Source and select suitable imagery for both marketing and training content
    5. Review and update internal documents e.g. manuals, policy documents, etc
    6. Contribute ideas for new or improved communication
    7. Provide materials to support departments in their activities: marketing, promotions, training, programme delivery
    8. Working with the relevant internal specialists to ensure that our programmes, policies and practices are correct and up-to-date


  1. Deliver
    1. Take communication through to actual delivery: updating websites, posting on social media, sending emails
    2. Manage both the content and use of our online learning platforms
    3. Monitor and report on the performance of communications

      Conditions of Work

      • Salary from £25,000
      • Based at Sheffield Head Office with travel in UK and abroad
      • Typical working pattern 37.5 hours Mon-Fri between 8am-6pm, but we’re happy to discuss other flexible working arrangements
      • Report directly to Head of Design & Development with monthly 1:1 meetings
      • Annual performance review


      Minimum Requirements

      • At least 2 years’ experience in a related field
      • Excellent verbal and written communication with attention to detail
      • Supportive of the mission and values of the King’s Foundation
