IT Intern


We’re looking for an IT enthusiast to join our team in Sheffield, where you’ll get to develop your IT skills while helping children across the UK to get active, have fun and learn together.

You’ll be part of a small dynamic head office team that’s committed to our very real mission of using sport and activity to enrich the lives of children and young people and help them to fulfil their potential. We provide activity camps for children, employment opportunities for young people, professional services to the leisure industry and training and resources for volunteers.

The IT intern position is an opportunity to learn and develop skills with a wide variety of software and hardware, including website and social media. It provides support for a number of departments in the organisation as well as working directly with the IT Manager and software developers.

Serving a young market, we constantly need to update and develop our systems, use the latest technologies and integrate with new online services.

Our main systems are web-based using PHP and MySQL hosted on Amazon AWS using Docker EC2 and RDS. We integrate these with authentication services from Microsoft Azure and our head office systems use a Windows domain on Hyper-V architecture.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Enable our online engagement
    1. Enable systems and processes to monitor and respond to social media enquiries
    2. Provide technical assistance for HTML/CSS/JS issues and improvements in WordPress, MailChimp and other online tools
    3. Update listings and manage our data on third-party sites
    4. Provide images and video manipulation, bulk download and upload
    5. Bulk email support and implementation
    6. Check and improve performance of websites and applications
  2. Work with data
    1. Update database reports in online reporting software
    2. Create and update Excel reports
    3. Provide data import and export for our websites
    4. Assist with GDPR data requests
    5. Check, filter and clean data for import and export
  3. Support our teams
    1. Provide technical support to staff with hardware and software issues
    2. Provide basic training in online packages and installed software
    3. Setup hardware and install software packages

This is a full-time role (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm), based at our Sheffield Head Office, reporting to the Head of Design and Development.

Salary Guide: £16,000 to £18,000 dependent on experience and qualifications.
