Rookie Sports Coach
A King's Camps Rookie sports coach is responsible for designing and delivering the Rookie Sports Leadership Award programme for a group of 14-17 year old children. The Rookie Sports Leadership Award provides practical work experience for individuals interested in sports coaching and childcare and aims to improve Rookies' self-confidence, sports coaching ability and leadership skills through a series of leadership tasks and personal development challenges.
The Rookie sports coach works with all the Rookies' on camp and ensures that they experience a range of sports coaching activities and get involved in a variety of different activities while developing their sports coaching and leadership skills.

Rookie Sports Coach - Skills Match
- Ideal candidates will be proficient in coaching a range of sports, preferably net and wall, invasion games or striking and fielding games
- An NGB sports coaching qualification in at least one sport, or are studying towards a sports, teaching, coaching or PE qualification.
- Experience of working with children aged 14-17 years is essential and mentoring experience will be beneficial.
- Having a current First Aid qualification will significantly increase the chance of selection.
Rookie Sports Coach - Job Details
- Hours of work are generally between 8am and 6pm, during the holidays and will be confirmed by contract.
- Rate of pay is dependent upon contract.
Rookie Sports Coach - Duties & Responsibilities
- Rookie sports coaches must focus on the Rookies in your care at all times. Welcome and get to know
the Rookies in your group, ensuring that their enjoyment and development is your prime
concern.
- Ensure the health and safety of the Rookies in your care. Be fully aware of the health and safety policies and inform the camp manager of any contravention of policy. Ensure the Rookies in your group are aware of all risks and relevant
safety policies.
- Plan the Rookie programme making full use of the
facilities available, ensuring all elements of the Rookie Sports Leadership Award programme are
incorporated and the needs of Rookies are met in accordance with their
leadership development.
- Plan, prepare and deliver high quality, fun, sports coaching, developing Rookies skill level and their coaching knowledge.
- Supervise
lunch, breaks and related activities providing adequate supervision to
ensure Rookies are safe and happy. Carry out lunchtime activities to
keep the Rookie active, interested and enhance
their holiday camp experience.
- Ensure the safe and effective use
of venue facilities and sports equipment. Respect the venue facilities and
ensure they are treated with care and left clean and tidy at the end of
each day. Check the equipment daily to prevent loss of equipment and
identify damaged items.
- Take the role of a ‘Responsible
Adult’ in the pool sessions. Participate in the swimming sessions,
actively watching and encouraging children. Observe the children at all
times, watching for any children in difficulty.
